35.
That’s how many days (as of publishing date) are left of this decade.
DECADE!!
3615 days of the 2010’s decade have passed with only 35 short days to go.
Which has brought up a lot of conversations in my life reflecting on where we were in this time 10 years ago vs where we are today. In life, in business, in health. In it all.
It’s crazy, how much changes in 10 years’ time.
Looking at the years ahead, I am wondering how life will look coming up 10 years from now.

Have you been pondering those changes too?
I can’t say that, in 2009, as a 26-year-old entrepreneur, newly married and building my wedding photography business, I did much mental fast-forwarding as the new decade came upon us.
But, now, as we approach 2020 I see the power of forecasting and planning. As well as reviewing just how far I’ve come in these past 10 years.
My life looks a ton different today than it did in 2009.
Today, in November 2019, we have a house, 2 kids in elementary school, and we provide a place for my mom to live. Pete works for a company that, while providing great benefits for the family, requires extensive hours at work.
My business looks pretty different than it did in November 2009.
I no longer focus on wedding photography, successfully pivoting my business into this branding and educational space. Helping online businesses succeed in their branding imagery and marketing without the learning pitfalls I worked my way through as a budding entrepreneur. Same medium: photography. But, way different goals and approaches.

I love seeing how we’ve grown and changed and become more at this time. We lived a lot in these last 10 years and I have a passion for my soul to live an even better life in the upcoming 10 years!
So, as we bring the family together this week for Thanksgiving, to celebrate another year and decade coming to an end, I’m thinking a lot about how I want the next 10 years to look like in my life and business.
And I encourage you to do the same.
The thought I’m leaving you with today, as it struck me as so powerful when I heard it is this.
When building habits and goal setting for the future, focus on your trajectory, not your position.
It’s too easy to get pulled off track because the habit or goal isn’t happening fast enough, but if you focus on making sure you are heading in the right direction, all that matters is that you put one foot in front of the other.
If you allow yourself to get sidetracked and stop because you set high expectations for your effort, you will stop trying before ever making headway.
Therefore, for all my goals and habits I plan on achieving in the new decade, I plan on focusing on taking 1 step at a time vs a sprint I can’t maintain.
I listened to an amazing podcast that has my head spinning about how to accomplish this goal setting. And even more importantly habit setting that you should listen to!
Listen to the Storybrand Podcast #175- How to Hack Your Habits to Achieve Lasting Change.
And I am heading to my Amazon app right now to get the book Atomic Habits by James Clear.
