My top 5 tips on marketing for beginners in the service industry.
Marketing your business can be overwhelming. Most definitely when you are beginning.
Should you do Instagram or TicToc?
Is Facebook worth it? You heard Blogging is dead.
Should you jump into YouTube or dig into Pinterest?
There is no lack of options on how to market your service business these days, and each strategy has its own approach. But there are certain tactics you can take that help marketing for beginners or experienced marketers.
Here are the top 5 tips for Marketing for Beginners.
1- Talk to one person in all of your content.
Your audience will feel like you’re talking directly to them instead of a random unknown crowd. Don’t say “hey guys” in your content. As the person ingesting your content is likely hanging out by themselves, staring down at their phone! They are solo. So talk to just them.
Use the words YOU in your marketing a lot. Because that tells the viewer that you are talking about something that helps THEM. And we all love content that helps us vs fluff that wastes your time right?
2-Show your Personality!
It doesn’t have to be a dancing photo but figure out a way to show a little bit of who you are in your brand. Embrace it.
Share your quirks and the things you love. Talk about your obsession with Oreos. (Or is it just me??). This lets people know more about you and gives them an opportunity to like YOU. When they like you they are more likely to want to do business with you. But if you hide behind your services, all you will get is people wanting the lowest-priced option (which is the lamest).
3-Show up Consistently…
This doesn’t have to mean social media. It could be your blog, it could be a podcast, it could be an email list, but show up for your people on the regular so they know they can count on you.
When they see you’ve shown up consistently leading with value every week for the past 52 weeks without issue, then they know you are serious about your business. They will be more confident that you will be serious about their business too!
It’s all about building trust.
4-Share transformations.
People love to know how people have changed for the better after working with you. No matter how big! Just share. It lets your audience imagine what it would be like to have that transformation with you.
These don’t have to be huge transformations, they just have to be the fix to the problem your dream client has. What is it you are fixing for them? It’s not usually your service. It’s what your service gives them.
Photos give people memories.
A weight loss coach gives people confidence in themselves.
Your course teaches them how to use Pinterest, but it’s traffic and business to their website that is the transformation you are solving.
5-Keep it about them
Building your personal brand involves doing a bit of a dance. You need to show up, show your face and share your stories… but, really, it’s not about you. It’s about what you do for your audience.
They want to know those fun things about you… but only AFTER you’ve shared how you are going to help them. That is always key #1.
Keep all your content and all your messaging about how it helps your audience. Add your personality but always bring it back to them because guess what? That’s what they care about.
It’s after you’ve filled that need that they start caring about you.
If you are struggling with how to effectively do any of these 5 tips, don’t you worry.
